Social Media Associate
Youth Impact’s mission is to connect youth to proven life-saving information. Our vision is to enable over 1 million youth to thrive through delivery of multiple evidence-based programs. We are at an inflection point in our growth: we have over 350 staff, three programs in health and education, and a cumulative reach of over 200,000 youth in 10 countries. Our culture is unique: we are always learning, have a dynamic, youthful team, a fierce commitment to measurement and evidence, and work hand-in-hand with the government. On any given day our leaders will sing and dance, negotiate MOUs, and spend dedicated time with the field team in schools.
Primary Purpose
The Social Media Associate will be responsible for elevating the mission and impact of Youth Impact by strategically cultivating and leading the organization’s online presence. As a senior leader within the communications team, the Associate will be instrumental in shaping and executing branding strategies, enhancing Youth Impact’s visibility and voice both within Botswana and on the global stage. The Associate will collaborate with various departments to drive organizational storytelling and spearhead advocacy initiatives.
We are looking for an experienced communications professional who can effectively convey our mission and tailor content for different audiences – from using emojis on Facebook, to industry language on LinkedIn, to turning complex research into shareable data visualizations on X. As a non-profit learning organization with a global network, we rely on strong, organic communication rather than paid media. We seek someone who combines digital media expertise with strategic insight and strong writing skills to drive our organic engagement.

Actively analyze and report on digital performance metrics, including media mentions, social media and website analytics, and public impact measures. As a data-driven organization, we expect our Social Media Associate to use these insights to iteratively refine strategies, fostering continuous improvement.
-
Lead the dissemination of our quarterly newsletter via Mailchimp, cultivating community support, sharing organizational successes, and keeping stakeholders informed on issues related to our mission.
-
Develop and implement comprehensive digital communications strategies on an annual and monthly basis, ensuring alignment with broader organizational communication goals and key awareness initiatives (e.g. World AIDS Day, Month of Youth Against AIDS, Literacy Day).
-
Act as a strategic advisor to leadership on matters of digital communications and branding, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels and platforms.

Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communications, Business, Development Studies or related fields. A postgraduate degree is an asset.

Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences, from funders to grassroots supporters.
-
A data-driven mindset with the ability to translate analytics into actionable insights, and to translate data into compelling narratives.
-
Strong leadership and collaboration skills, capable of working autonomously as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Skills & Experiences
-
Experience in sectors such as education, public health, non-profit, or international development.
