A/B testing support

Interested in A/B testing? Partner with Youth Impact

Are you interested in carrying out A/B testing at your organization but are unsure of how to get started? We can help. Youth Impact has tools available to all, plus funding to support a limited number of organizations to start or expand their A/B testing practice.

The Iterative A/B Testing Toolkit

Our Iterative A/B Testing Toolkit is a public good. It’s a practical guide for NGOs, governments, funders, and anyone strengthening their learning systems. It explains how to get started and includes the tools for designing, randomizing, analyzing, and documenting tests. Anyone is welcome to read it, use it, and adapt it—whether or not you partner with us. The toolkit also contains the core resources we use when supporting partners formally.

What is A/B testing?

A/B testing is a rigorous, rapid, and regular way to improve your program. It involves making a small tweak to your existing model, randomly allocating individuals or groups to version A or B, then comparing differences in outcomes and costs. This allows organizations to optimize programs for greater cost-effectiveness and scalability, building a continuous learning system that improves each cycle. A/B testing is especially useful for teams seeking practical, low-cost ways to learn and adapt in real time. Results typically come in weeks or months—not years—so improvements can be implemented within your program cycle.

Read more on our A/B testing page.

Is A/B testing right for your organization?

It could be a good fit if your organization:

  • Works at a scale where randomization is feasible (e.g., 60–80 sites or 1,200+ individuals).

  • Collects (or is ready to collect) high-frequency outcome data using internal systems.

  • Has a learning culture, where evidence informs decisions and null results are seen as progress.

  • Is willing to “flip a coin” and implement according to random assignment.

  • Can commit staff time to an iterative process—A/B testing is most powerful when it’s ongoing rather than one-off.

If you’re unsure, our organizational readiness guidance and self-assessment quiz in the toolkit can help you gauge fit.

Why partner with Youth Impact?

We’ve been running A/B tests for nearly a decade—75 tests across multiple countries—currently running one per program per country each school term.

We support organizations to get started through a structured, four-phase process:

  1. Pilot tweak: where you implement a simple variation at small scale.

  2. Data flow: where you strengthen your monitoring system and collect high-frequency data.

  3. First A/B test: where you run your first randomized test and interpret results.

  4. Ongoing testing: where you build a sustainable, iterative learning system.

Our support includes technical guidance from experienced implementers and researchers, tools for test design and data analysis, and (for a limited number of partners) financial support to get started.

We’ve helped organizations run tests that reduce costs while maintaining impact, and others that enhance effectiveness at low marginal cost. Many partners now run multiple A/B tests each year, embedding evidence directly into implementation. We share everything we learn—including the tools, templates, and methods we use—so that others can build their own testing muscle.
