Primary Purpose
We seek Peer Educators who excel in a team-oriented and collaborative environment that values curiosity, a passion for improving youth’s lives and enjoy being in the classroom working with students. We are looking for candidates who can manage partner schools, organization of teacher and youth volunteer training, managing a successful, high-impact program to measurably improve numeracy. The candidate will also enjoy problem-solving and applying creative thinking to challenges and building relationships with teachers, program leaders, implementers, and government partners.
We are looking to engage class Peer Educators to deliver our Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) program (teaching basic numeracy) to school students in grade 4 & 5 in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, specifically in Khuma, Matlosana. Peer Educators will be trained on the program assessment tools, curriculum, and operations and will implement the TaRL program over the course of 4 months.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Peer Educators will be responsible for implementing Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) at quality:

Attend 5-days of training prior to implementation, starting in April.

Assess student numeracy and literacy skills with TaRL using a levelling tool at baseline, midline, and endline.

Develop detailed daily lesson plans with targeted objectives and activities.

Facilitate a 90 minute high-energy curriculum on basic numeracy and literacy.

Engage for 3 – 4 hours per day, over the course of 4 months.

Target and advance student learning with learner-centred activities and teaching techniques and,

Engage in daily and weekly pre-sessions and reflections with fellow facilitators and supervisors.
Qualifications and Characteristics

Youth with the minimum of a National Senior Certificate (NSC)/Matric, up to Diploma and Degree qualification.

Experience in educational environments as teaching assistants, facilitating, teaching, lesson planning, tutoring numeracy.

Familiarity and ease in working with children.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Native languages will be a bonus.

Ability to develop strong and cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, school leadership, local community-based stakeholders and members of the community.

Demonstrate a proactive approach to self-development as well as strive to link theory with practice.

We are exclusively interested in candidates located in South Africa, North West Province, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, in Khuma, Matlosana.
