We’re thrilled to share that we are now working in 10/10 regions in Botswana. We’ve officially entered the tenth and final region (South). This marks a significant milestone in our work towards ensuring no child falls behind in foundational maths and literacy.

This achievement is the result of strong collaboration with the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education. We are grateful for our continued partnership with the ministry, whose leadership has paved the way for the evidence-based education program to be rolled out across the country. The partnership is testament to the fact that ‘scaling happens through government!’
We marked the launch in the South region with a teacher training for 108 teachers from 25 primary schools in the Kanye sub-region.
But this expansion is about more than just geography. It reflects the important lessons we’ve learned from scaling TaRL across Botswana:
Seizing the right moment: TaRL’s success has come from aligning with national priorities and school structures, addressing real educational challenges with a simple and cost-effective approach.
Flexible innovation: From tailoring the model to Botswana’s context to testing various delivery models through A/B testing, adaptation has been key to reaching more learners effectively.
Championing leadership at all levels: By building partnerships with national and regional leaders, including those who have moved across districts, we’ve ensured TaRL gains traction where it’s needed most.
Data as a driver: Using timely, visible data to guide decisions has fueled both momentum and accountability, helping scale what works without overburdening schools or government systems.
As we celebrate reaching the final region, we remain focused on what comes next: sustaining impact, deepening government ownership, and ensuring every child in Botswana receives the right level of support to thrive.
