TaRL and mEducation named among the world's 100 most impactful education innovations
18 Nov 2025
We’re proud to share that both education programs we scale in partnership with governments—Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and mEducation (the Philippines name for ConnectEd)—have been featured in HundrED’s Global Collection 2026. The HundrED Global Collection celebrates the world's most impactful and scalable innovative solutions in education, selecting only 100 out of 3000 submissions, which underwent a review by over 200 education experts.
The threads that connect the HundrED’s list—impact, scalability, and innovation—are the same principles that guide our work. We’re encouraged to see these programs resonate with a growing global network committed to evidence-based, scalable education. It’s a movement we’re proud to contribute to—and fitting, perhaps, given that impact is in our name!
Teaching at the Right Level
An evidence-based approach accelerating children’s acquisition of foundational reading & math skills
Low foundational skills are a global education challenge. The TaRL approach, pioneered by Pratham in India and rigorously evaluated, helps children learn faster by meeting them where they are. Instead of teaching by age or grade, TaRL focuses on each child’s current learning level to help them build skills and catch up. TaRL has been adapted in 20+ countries with promising results across contexts.
Youth Impact supports delivery of TaRL in four countries in close partnership with Pratham, TaRL Africa, and the governments of Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and the Philippines.

mEducation
Improving foundational numeracy skills through phone-based targeted tutoring
mEducation, globally known as ConnectEd, is a phone-based program delivering weekly SMS exercises and phone tutorials to improve numeracy for Grades 3–5 students in the Philippines. Accessible on basic phones, it is a cost-effective, scalable solution. With proven impact and support from the Philippine Department of Education, it seeks to expand nationwide and ensure continuous learning.
mEducation was originally developed by Youth Impact under the name “ConnectEd”as an adaptation of TaRL during COVID-19. The model has since been evaluated in six countries, including by Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) in the Philippines, showing that it can deliver up to four years of quality learning for just USD 100 per student. It is now scaling successfully in the Philippines in a collaboration between Youth Impact, IPA and DepEd.
